Fourth graders, at Lake Charles Charter Academy, have been studying artwork. Children viewed individual pieces of famous artist, Keith Haring’s work. They were encouraged to discuss the artist’s use of color, shape and line. They were asked to think about possible sources of inspiration; they were encouraged to create possible scenarios and stories for each of the images. Children discussed in detail the artist’s use of line to indicate movement. Students took the initiative to sketch and create some people in motion- similar to the style of Haring. Once confident, they painted their creations utilizing their own color palette. Brooklyn and Amiah are featured as proud artists of their own colorful masterpieces! Lake Charles Charter Academy continues to implement art in all academic areas of the curriculum through the continued partnership with the Louisiana A+ Schools George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts.
